PITTSTON, PA (October 30, 2021) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team fell to visiting SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams by a score of 4-0 at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
The Monarchs played the Roos tough all game receiving great goaltending from
Syd Dahl. The first-year goalie made 40 saves in her first collegiate game. Dahl stopped 10 shots in the first period, 16 in the second, and 14 in the third.
Canton scored the first goal of the game at the 8:38 mark of the second period as Desiree Snook scored 16 seconds into a power-play opportunity. Micayla MacIntyre and Meaghan Best assist on the goal. Snook scored her second goal of the game two minutes later to increase the lead to 2-0. Sarah Kosnaskie had the assist on the play.
The Roos scored their final two goals in the final five minutes of the third period. Verity Lewis first lit the lamp off an assist by Halle McKinnon with 4:01 on the clock. Sandrene Garofalo closed out the scoring with 40 seconds left off assists by Makayla Young and Hannah Clement.
Jordan Dittmar won a team-high eight faceoffs on 17 attempts while
Josée Aitken won seven of her 16 attempts.
Kait Wolf and
Emma Dos Santos had two shots each to lead the attack while Aitken and
Perri Cronk each blocked a pair of shots. King's was 0-for-5 on the power-play and 1-for-4 on the penalty kill.
King's and Canton will wrap up their weekend series on Sunday afternoon back at Revolution for a 3 pm puck drop.
