Aitken Scores 14th Career Goal Against Canton

PITTSTON, PA (October 31, 2021) -- Josée Aitken scored her program-leading 14th career goal for the King's College women's ice hockey team on Sunday afternoon in a 14-1 loss to SUNY Canton at the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

Aitken scored the first goal of the season for the Monarchs at the 15:15 mark of the first period picking off a pass inside the blue line and drilling a shot into the back of the net from the middle of the ice.

Canton scored three goals in the first 15 minutes to take a 3-0 lead before Aitken scored for the Monarchs. The Kangaroos scored twice in 53 seconds in the 19th minute to take a 5-1 lead into the intermission. The Roos began a five-goal second period with a short-handed goal at 3:48 and then finished the period with their first power-play goal of the game at 15:19. Canton added four goals in the third period to set the final score.

Aitken, Erin King, and Savannah Willard had two shots each for the Monarchs who recorded 11 total shots in the game. Aitken won a team-high eight faceoffs while also blocking two shots. As a team the Monarchs blocked 18 shots. King led the way with five while Kait Wolf and Ani Quindipan blocked two apiece. In goal Hannah Bowers made 17 saves before being replaced by Juli Wilson in the second period. Wilson stopped 18 shots in her collegiate debut as she played the rest of the game. The Monarchs committed four penalties in the game and were two-for-four on the penalty kill.

Canton was led by Iida Laitinen with four goals and one assist. Desiree Snook added two goals and three assists while Verity Lewis tallied two goals and an assist. Gracyn Emmerton scored twice and won 11 of 14 faceoffs.

King's will return to action next weekend when they Manhattanville College for a pair of games to begin conference play. The first game with be on Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre with puck drop scheduled for 7 pm. Saturday's puck drop will be at 2 pm.
