RYE, NY (November 6, 2021) – The King's College men's ice hockey team once again fought back from a two-goal first period deficit, but host Manhattanville College defeated the Monarchs 6-5 in an overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon at the Playland Ice Casino in Rye, New York.

For the second straight game King's went down 2-0 in the first period as AJ Bella scored at the 7:03 mark and Noah Bradley found the back of the net at 17:41. The Monarchs didn't wait until the second period to mount their comeback as Jakub Viedemann tallied his first career goal right before the time expired in the period. Jack Cooper and Tyler Blanchard were credited with assists on the play.

Manhattanville began a wild second period with a goal by Jarod Lavallee just 21 seconds into the period. King's responded with two back-to-back goals in the middle of the period to even things up. Josh Edwards scored his first goal of the year and second of his career at 10:54 off assists by Kent Lee and Viedemann. Under two minutes later, Luke Babilon tied things up with his first career goal. Michael DiSchiavi and Brett Dillon assisted on the play. M'Ville answered right back with a goal by Hayden Taylor to retake the lead with just over six minutes left in the period. Cooper sent the Monarchs into the locker room tied at four as he scored his first career goal on a power-play opportunity with 4:16 left. Dillon and Babilon assisted on the goal.

The Valiants struck first in the third period as Alex Rowella found the back of the net right before the five-minute mark. A minute later, Cooper tied things up again with his second of the game off an assist by Lee. Neither team was able to score again as the game headed to overtime. In the extra session the Valiants scored on a two-on-one with 1:12 left in the period to earn the victory. James Gregory scored after receiving a pass from Niko Happo.

The Monarchs had another strong offensive night scoring five goals which is tied for the second-most in program history. They outshot the Valiants 32-20 which is the first time this year they have held a shot advantage. The nine assists in the game are a program record and the 14 points is also a program record.
