PITTSTON, PA (November 6, 2021) --
Jordan Dittmar scored her first career goal for the King's College women's ice hockey team in a 3-1 loss to Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
The Monarchs gave the Valiants a battle after Friday night's loss as Manhattanville needed two third period power-play goals to earn the victory. The King's defense played tremendous all game blocking 13 shots while not allowing the Valiants an easy shot at goal. In net,
Syd Dahl had another fantastic game making 39 saves while facing 42 shots.
M'Ville got on the board 2:22 into the game as Tia Martignetti scored off an assist from Grace Genest. The Monarchs didn't let the early deficit get to them as they attacked the Valiant defense looking for the equalizer while their defense held off attack of the visitors.
The equalized finally came in the second period at the 8:26 mark as Dittmar knocked in a centering pass from
Erin King a little under one minute into a power-play opportunity. King took the puck along the boards on the right side, shook off a Valiant defender and sent a pass in front of goal to Dittmar. Dittmar, who had creeped in between two defenders received the pass and knocked it into the back of the net for her first goal. The assist was King's first of the year and sixth of her career.
With the goal the Monarchs had momentum shifted in their favor and they rode it the rest of the period as they looked for the go-ahead goal. Unfortunately, the Monarchs were unable to score again in the period and the game headed to the final period tied at one.
In the third period, M'Ville retook the lead at the 2:34 mark with a power-play goal as Grace Genest picked up a loose puck off her own shot that was blocked by
Perri Cronk and found the back of the net for her first of the season. The Monarchs had been two-woman down due to a pair of penalties and had just killed off the first penalty prior to Genest scoring.
The Monarchs battled tough to get the equalizing goal but were unable to get any shots pass Franny Gerardi in net. Manhattanville tallied an insurance goal with 16 second left on a power-play opportunity to set the final score.
Ali Noeding and
Emma Dos Santos led the Monarch with four shots each while
Kait Wolf and
Emma Clark had two apiece. Wolf led the team with three blocked shots while
Ryan Bisgard and
Sam Kulman blocked two each. Dittmar had a good day on faceoffs winning a team-high 10 while losing just six. Dahl made 11 saves in the first and 14 in both the second and third period to finish with 39 in goal.
King's will now turn their attention to their first road trip of the year as they will travel up to Utica next weekend to face the Pioneers. Friday's game will begin at 2:30 pm while Saturday is scheduled for a 2:00 pm puck drop.
