King’s Women’s Ice Hockey Battle Tough Against Lebanon Valley

PITTSTON, PA (December 3, 2021) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team took a season-high 28 shots on Friday night but were unable to find the back of the net in a tough 2-0 loss to Lebanon Valley College in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference and Middle Atlantic Conference battle at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

Lebanon Valley held the momentum in the game early on and put a couple of shots on goal in the first couple of minutes. King's responded with an offensive attack of their own as Erin King, Dianna Duncan, and Sam Kulman had shots saved. The Flying Dutchmen got on the board 9:32 into the period when Abby Radcliffe scored her third goal of the year off a rebound on a shot saved by Syd Dahl. The Monarchs had a chance to score late in the period but shots by Ryan Bisgard and King were stopped by Shelby Guinard in net.

Neither team was able to score in a penalty-filled second period with the Monarchs having the best chance of the period at the 13:43 mark. With LVC on a power-play opportunity, Josée Aitken intercepted a pass and had a breakaway attempt with just the goalie to beat. She was unable to get off a shot as an LVC defender took her down from behind giving KC a penalty shot. King was chosen to take the shot for the Monarchs and managed to deke the Dutchmen goalie and beat her to the left but her shot at goal just went wide left. The Monarchs had five different power-play opportunities in the period and put 12 shots on goal while they had the extra woman advantage. King's outshot the Dutchmen 15-9 in the period but were unable to light the lamp.

The Monarchs kept the momentum going into the beginning of the third period as Audrey Martin, Jordan Dittmar, Aitken, and Ali Noeding had shots saved in the first few minutes. Lebanon Valley managed to double their lead at 4:55 when Radcliffe scored her second goal of the game causing a turnover inside the blue line and finding the back of the net with the puck. The Monarchs fought hard the rest of the period to cut into the lead but were unable to score. King's pulled the goalie for an extra attacker at 18:16 and had attempts by Kulman and Emma Dos Santos blocked. The Dutchmen tried scoring into the empty net but Aitken knocked down an attempt from just outside the blue line and then Kulman made a spectacular goal line save on a shot by Radcliffe that nearly went over the line.

Noeding lead the team with six shots while Aitken, King, and Dos Santos had three each. Aitken was amazing on faceoffs winning a team-high 16 while losing just six. Ditmar also had a good night on faceoffs winning 13 and losing nine. The Monarchs blocked 14 shots with Perri Cronk, Kait Wolf, Meghan Mietlicki, and Ani Quindipan getting in the way of two shots each. Dahl had another fantastic game in goal making 32 saves. After a 14 save first period, the first year stopped nine shots in both the second and third periods. The defense allowed a season-low 34 shots on goal.

King's and LVC will wrap up the season series tomorrow afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 pm.
