Germano, Kravits Highlight Monarch Wrestling Action at Messiah Petrofes Invitational

GRANTHAM, PA (December 3, 2021) --- The King's College Wrestling squad competed in the Messiah Petrofes Invite this weekend, where they finished 13th out of 17 teams with 38 total points. 

Day One: 

First-year Nick Germano continued his tremendous start to his Monarch career posting a 3-1 record on the day at 133. He opened the invitational with back-to-back wins, first defeating Nicolas Jones of McDaniel 10-0, then earning an 18-0 tech fall over Tyler Bisono of Cortland. Germano dropped his quarterfinal match to top-seeded David Massey of Mount Union, before bouncing back in the fourth round of the consolation bracket with a 19-4 tech fall against Amos Rivera of Cortland. 

Jackson Marcantonio earned an 8-7 decision win over Jalen Cornelius of Shenandoah in the third round of the 157 consolation bracket, before eventually falling in the fourth round to Robert Lawlor of Alvernia. Fellow Monarch, Cameron Leslie, also competed at 157 and won in first bout of the day against Joshua Searle of Washington & Jefferson in a 6-3 decision. Leslie dropped his next match to Cortland's Chandler Merwin. 

In a tough 174 bracket, Kade Kravits held his own, making it all the way to the quarter finals. The senior earned two consecutive wins to begin his day, first defeating Gavin Hollingsworth of Alvernia in an 11-5 decision, then taking down Tyson Hoopes of Southern Virginia with a 20-1 tech fall. Kravits then dropped his quarterfinal match to David Reinhart of Mount Union. He responded well in the fourth round of the consolation bracket, edging out Hunter Thompson of Shenandoah in an 8-7 decision. 

Billy Grace had a strong outing for the Monarchs, going 3-2 on the day at 184. He won his opening bout in a 4-1 decision over Scott Horry of Muhlenberg. After falling in round two of the championship bracket, Grace made a strong run in the consolations, including a pin on Karam Saraireh of Cortland. He eventually fell to Ryder Slayton of Messiah in the fourth round of the consolations. 

Another key performer on the day was first-year Jason Sine who posted a record of 2-2. Sine won his first two matches of the day, which included a 9-8 decision win over Micah Kunkle of Messiah, and a pin on Lexx Carr of Alderson Broaddus. He would unfortunately have to withdraw from the remainder of the tournament due to an injury.

King's recieved two solid performances in the heavyweight bracket as Dave White and Isaac Mensah each earned a win on the day, both of which were pins. White notched a fall in four minutes and thirty-four seconds over Sean Quaye of Muhlenberg, while Mensah pinned Cache Holmes of Southern Virginia in just thirty-three seconds.

Day Two:

Germano and Kravits each entered the final day of competition ready to battle in the fifth round of the consolations in their respective weight class. Germano earned a win in his bout in a 7-0 decision over James King of Alvernia, which advanced him to the fifth place match. He then faced a highly ranked wrestler in Josh Wilson of Greensboro. Wilson defeated Germano 10-1 by majority decision. Germano finished the tournament in sixth place at 133.

Kravits dropped his bout to Ray Martin of Gettysburg 6-1 in the fifth round match of the 174 consolations. He then received a forfeit win in his final match of the tournament as his competitor was forced to withdraw from competition due to an injury. Kravits finished in seventh place in a tough 174 bracket.

King's wrestling will return to action next Saturday, December 11 when they host a quad-match featuring Alvernia, Muhlenberg, and Pitt-Bradford.
