YORK, PA (March 13, 2021) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team hung with the No. 8 Spartans of York College Saturday early on but couldn't maintain the pace as the the Monarchs dropped a 23-3 contest to the host Spartans in action from Kinsley Field in York, PA.
The Spartans (2-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead but King's stopped the run on an
Emily Sims unassisted goal to make it 4-1. It was Sim's third goal of the year, but York would turn on the offense as it finished the opening stanza with a 11-0 run. Many of the goals came in transition, as the Spartans took advantage of nine King's turnovers.
In the second half, King's (0-2) was outscored 8-2 but the stats were much more even with an 11-7 shot edge for York and a 6-5 draw control lead for the hosts. King's also was successful on three of it's four clear attempts and forced six turnovers in the second half.
In addition to her goal, Sims finished with three draw controls, two ground balls and three shots on goal while classmate Jennifer O'Connor led the team with two points on a goal and assist, adding three draw controls. Junior
Natasha Koslop scored as well for King's, and sophomore
Brynn Pike posted two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Sophomore
Celia Medina posted two grounds balls, and senior
Emma Lehman had an assist and caused turnover. The Monarchs got six saves from sophomore goalkeeper
Jessie Smalley, as King's was outshot 33-12 on the night. King's was also 0-for-6 on free position attempts, while York buried eight of its nine taken.
Celly Arthur led York with seven points on two goals and five assists, and Rachel Della led all scorers with four goals. Kiersten Blanchard and Madison Marciniak each also posted hat tricks for the Spartans in the win.
King's will hop into Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play this upcoming Wednesday, playing its first of four home games this season with a conference tilt with Misericordia University at 4:30 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
