WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 24, 2021) -- Seniors
Mary Kate Klodarska and
Kylie McCarthy combined for 11 points Wednesday evening, helping push the King's College women's lacrosse team over .500 in the Middle Athletic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) with a 16-4 victory over Delaware Valley University in action from McCarthy Stadium.
The Monarchs (2-3, 2-1 MAC Freedom) have now posted back-to-back wins after Saturday's victory over Wilkes University, and are 2-1 in the MAC Freedom for the first time since 2017. King's wasted no time getting on top of their visitors, as
Natasha Koslop tallied off a feed from McCarthy three minutes in to make it 1-0.
King's scored three more to make the score 4-0, capped by an unassisted score by
Celia Medina with 17:35 to go in the first half before Amanda KcKeegan ended the KC spurt with a goal for Delaware Valley (0-5, 0-2 MAC Freedom). With 5:23 remaining in the half, junior
Jen O'Connor tallied from Klodarska to start a 6-0 run before the half to make the game 12-2 going to halftime.
After halftime, King's scored three of the first four goals of the period to take a 15-3 lead, cruising to the conference victory. Klodarska finished with three goals and three assists, while McCarthy posted two scores, three assists and three ground balls. Junior
Emily Sims had a strong game as well, posted three goals, five ground balls, three caused turnovers and career-high eight draw controls.
Sophomore
Celia Medina chalked up her second straight hat trick with three goals, and senior
Emma Lehman registered two goals. Junior
Jen O'Connor also finished with six draw controls and a goal and junior
Bailey Jordan tallied a goal and three caused turnovers.
King's had all three goalkeepers split time in goal, as sophomore
Jessie Smalley made four saves to earn the victory in 30 minutes of action. Senior
Orla Cottell stopped two DelVal shots, and
Sidney Horvath also made three saves.
The Monarchs outshot Delaware Valley 24-17 on the night, while winning 16 of the 21 draws taken. The Aggies were led by the three goals from Amanda McKeegan, as she tallied her 100th goal of her career in the second half. Nycole Hale also finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers as well.
King's will now turn its attention to MAC Freedom leaders FDU-Florham (5-0, 3-0 MAC Freedom), traveling to Madison, NJ for a contest with the Devils Saturday at 3:00 PM.
