Monarchs Fall on the Road at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (March 24, 2021) -- Senior Michael O'Brien tallied both goals for the Monarchs offense on Wednesday night as the King's College men's lacrosse team (0-5) fell on the road in Doylestown, 15-2, to the Delaware Valley University Aggies in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play.

Delaware Valley (2-2) opened the scoring on their home turf, taking an early 2-0 lead just 4:29 into the contest before the Monarchs got on the board with a goal from O'Brien with 9:15 left in the opening quarter.

Both defenses controlled the next 3:26 of play as neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Aggies got their opportunity to extend their lead as they scored four unanswered goals to end the first quarter leading King's, 6-1.

The Monarchs defense continued to battle in the second quarter, allowing just two early goals from Brett Ziegler and Dylan Brasch before shutting down the Aggies offense for the remainder of the half, trailing 8-1 at the break.

The third quarter went to Delaware Valley as they outscored the Monarchs 6-0 behind three goals from Brasch, maintaining a 14-1 lead heading to the final quarter of action.

After the Aggies tallied their final goal of the game from Ben Napieralski with 13:32 left, O'Brien netted his second goal of the game on a man-up opportunity for the Monarchs, posting the final, 15-2, in Doylestown.

First-year Alex Tristan had a solid effort for the Monarchs tonight, totaling five ground balls, a team-high five caused turnovers, and a shot on goal. Sophomore goalie Jackson Campbell led the Monarchs with six ground balls, also recording 17 saves between the poles in all 60 minutes.

Senior Trevor Douenias and first-year Joe Wiedow both recorded three ground balls, with Wiedow also causing two turnovers for the King's defense and Douenias earning eight face-off wins.

Brasch led the Aggies, totaling six goals and two assists for a team-high eight points, while Napieralski added four goals for the offense that held a 45-26 advantage in the shot column for the game. Luke Kelchner recorded six ground balls and seven caused turnovers, and Sean Mylod tied the team-high six ground balls and added four caused turnovers.

King's returns home on Saturday, March 27 as they host FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom play in McCarthy Stadium with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
