King's Men's Tennis Blanks Misericordia Saturday

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 10, 2021) -- The King's College men's tennis team continued their strong play of late, earning their second consecutive victory Saturday with an emphatic 9-0 victory over local rival Misericordia University play from Kirby Park.

The Monarchs (2-1) started things off with a quick victory at No. 3 doubles to grab the match lead, a lead they wouldn't relinquish as Nick Holland and Aidan Temple posted an 8-0 victory. Senior Austin Mackey and junior Nick Harth also had no issues at No. 2 doubles, pushing King's up 2-0 with an 8-0 win over Noah Drayton and Payton Argot.

The No. 1 doubles match was a little closer, but senior Jason Homschek and sophomore Logan Gregory were able to earn the 8-3 win to complete the sweep for the Monarchs. The trend continued in singles action for King's, as first-year Joe Lennon moved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.

Needing just one more win to clinch the match, Harth would have the duties at No. 3 as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Drayton to secure the wins for the Monarchs. Homschek continued the wins for King's, as he needed just 14 games to pick up the 6-1, 6-1 victory and his second win of the day, and Gregory earned his first singles win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2.

At No. 1 singles, Mackey played a competitive match with Zack Hemond but the King's senior was able to outlast his opponent in a 6-4, 6-4 decision. Sam Cadman extended his win streak in singles to two, as he was a winner with a score line of 6-0, 6-0. KC has now won 18 of its last 18 matches after knocking off York (PA) on March 27 8-1. Furthermore, King's has won 61.1 percent of its singles matches, while dominating doubles play with a 77.8 percent win clip.

King's will look to continue its strong play on Wednesday, taking on Wilkes University in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match on the Ralston Athletic Complex Tennis Courts.
