Dobeck Records Four Hits In Pair Of Losses To Misericordia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 17, 2021) -- Senior leadoff hitter Matt Dobeck recorded a pair of multi-hit games on Saturday afternoon as the King's College baseball team fell to visiting Misericordia University by scores of 10-3 and 11-4.

Dobeck led the team batting 4-for-7 on the day with two runs scored and an RBI. He also got on two other times via a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

In the opener MU (13-7) got out to a 7-0 lead scoring three times in the second and fourth innings while adding a run in the fifth. The Cougars, who traditionally run the bases well, did so against the Monarchs (4-13) with five stolen bases in the first game and seven total on the afternoon. The Cougars laid down perfectly placed bunts to get guys on and then let their speed do the rest of the work.

King's fought back with a big fifth inning scoring three runs on three hits to cut the deficit down to 7-3. Brendan Mozeleski led off with a five-pitch walk before Andrew Steidle doubled to left center. Matt Bound drove in one run with a grounder to short. Dobeck singled up the middle scoring another run. Patt Noone singled and Chris Burke walked to load the bases for Matt Mellinger who hit a slow grounder to third scoring the final run of the inning as the Cougars went for the double play but the relay to first was late. Misericordia scored their final three runs in the top of the seventh.

Dobeck and Noone had two hits at the top of the lineup while Noah Adams and Stiedle each record on hit.

The Cougars jumped ahead in the second game with a run in the first and two in the third on a two-run homer down the line in right. KC responded with their best inning of the afternoon scoring four runs on three hits to take a 4-3 lead. Paul Helman led off the inning drawing a nine-pitch walk after being down 0-2. Dobeck was hit by the next pitch and two batters later Burke hit a ball to the gap between short and third for an infield single loading the bases. Mellinger knocked a single to left scoring the first run of the game for KC and then Seth Laky made it 4-2 with a slow grounder to third where the only play was at first. Mozeleski gave King's their only lead of the afternoon with a single to left scoring Burke and Mellinger.

Misericordia responded with four runs of their own in the fourth to retake the lead at 7-4. They would add insurance runs with one in the fifth and three in the sixth to set the final score.
Dobeck had another two-hit game while Mellinger and Mozeleski also recorded two hits each in the nightcap. Liam Hughes pitched great in relief of Shane Beyer throwing 2.2 innings. He allowed just one hit before Mozeleski entered for a perfect ninth inning. The Monarchs loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to score.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with the conclusion of their four-game series in Dallas. Game one will begin at 12:00 pm with the second game to follow.
