Costello Earns Two Wins As King's Women's Tennis Falls at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA (April 20, 2021) -- First-year Jackie Costello earned two victories Tuesday afternoon but the King's College women's tennis team couldn't overcome a 2-1 doubles deficit in singles play as the Monarchs fell to host Arcadia University 6-3 in action from Weiss Courts.

The Monarchs would pick up one victory in doubles action as the first-year pair of Costello and Braelan Drollas topped Tatum Marino and Keely Ochs from Arcadia 8-6. AU picked up both No. 1 and No. 2 positions in pairs action as well, though Lauren Lamarca and Addie Atkins battled hard before being bested 8-5 at No. 2.

Going into singles action, King's was going to need to win four of the six flights to make the comeback. All six matches in singles were straight set affairs, as Lamarca earned her second singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Casey Boldt at No. 4.

Costello picked up her first collegiate singles win for the Monarchs at No. 6 singles, as she outlasted Haley Finelli 6-4 in the opening set before cruising to a 6-0 win in the second set. Atkins played well at No. 3 singles but was just upended 6-2, 6-4 by Emily Cruz-Pineda, while senior Alexis Zalutko was topped by Julia Paraboschi 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

The Monarchs moved to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom), while Arcadia improved to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the MAC Freedom.

King's will be back at home for the final three matches of the regular season, starting with a Saturday match against Lycoming College at noon at Kirby Park.
