Top Seed FDU-Florham Knocks Off Women's Lacrosse In MAC Freedom Semis

MADISON, NJ (April 29, 2021) -- The fourth-seed King's College women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end Thursday afternoon at top-seed FDU-Florham, as the Monarchs dropped a 22-6 decision to the Devils in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) semifinals from Robert T. Shields Field.

The Monarchs finished their season 4-7 overall, while earning their first ever MAC Tournament victory and earning their first-ever home MAC or MAC Freedom Tournament home game.

The Devils (15-0) scored the first six goals of the game, three coming from sophomore Kylee Garcia before junior Emily Sims tallied for King's to make it 6-1. Senior Emma Lehman tallied and Sims scored again before halftime, as the Devil took a 14-3 edge into the halftime break.

After the intermission, King's scored the first three goals of the period as Sims set up classmate Natasha Koslop and senior Kylie McCarthy before scoring one of her own to make it 14-6 with 22:26 left in regulation.

FDU-Florham though would net the final eight goals of the game to advance to the MAC Freedom Finals with the victory. Sims finished with five points on three goals and two assists, adding three draw controls and a ground ball.

Senior Mary Kate Klodarska posted one assist for the Monarchs, finishing with 98 points for her King's career. First-year Sarah McCormick finished with two caused turnovers and two ground balls for King's, while Lehman tallied three draw controls and a goal.

King's played all three goalkeepers on the day, as sophomore Jessie Smalley made nine saves while first-year netminder Sidney Horvath stopped six shots and allowed just two goals.

Garcia led all players with eight goals on 12 shots, while Katie Walsh tallied three goals, two ground balls and 12 draw controls. Aliyha Elk also finished with four goals and four caused turnovers in the win.

The Monarchs will say goodbye to their seniors in Klodarska, Lehman, McCarthy, Helen Zaremba, and Orla Cottell but return 11 players to the squad in 2022.
