GLENSIDE, PA (April 7, 2021) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team scored the first two goals of the game but couldn't hold on as the host Knights of Arcadia University earned their first win of the 2021 season with a 13-8 win over the Monarchs in play from Jean Lenox West Field Wednesday.
King's (2-5, 2-3 MAC Freedom) started strong with back-to-back goals from sophomore
Celia Medina and junior
Emily Sims to take a 2-0 lead. The hosts would tally two goals in 15 seconds to deadlock the game at two, and continued the run with three more to make it 5-2 with 14:34 to go in the first half after a goal by Sarah Morris.
The Monarchs ended the run on an unassisted tally by Sims, but Hannah McAllister scored with 39 seconds to play in the half to send the game to the break with AU leading 6-3. After the Knights scored to make it 7-3, the Monarchs battled back with unassisted goals by seniors
Emma Lehman and
Mary Kate Klodarska.
King's continued the run 15 seconds later following Klodarska's goal, as sophomore
Brynn Pike netted her first career goal on the first career assist by first-year
Sarah Zaleppa to make it 7-6 Arcadia with 21:16 to play. The hosts wouldn't let the lead go though, potting back-to-back goals to push the lead back up 9-6.
First-year Liz Benner would tally her first collegiate goal with help from Lehman to make it 9-7, but three straight from the Knights ended the comeback attempt for the Monarchs. Medina finished with two goals and a draw control, while Sims tallied two goals, seven draw controls and six shots.

Vivian Williams also tallied three ground balls. Pike also posted two ground balls, and sophomore
Jessie Smalley had a strong game in net with a career-best 15 saves.
Arcadia outshot the Monarchs 35-25 on the night, while edging the Monarchs in the ground ball tally, 13-10. McAllister finished with a game-high four points, while five players posted two goals apiece in the win for the Knights. Mariya Occorso finished with 11 saves in the win.
King's will now turn its attention to Saturday's home game against DeSales University at 1 p.m. from McCarthy Stadium.
