WILKES-BARRE, PA (May 1, 2021) -- The King's College women's tennis team finished its 2021 regular season Saturday afternoon at Kirby Park with its first victory of the year, knocking off FDU-Florham 5-4 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Senior Day.
The match was the final outing for four Monarch players, as seniors
Diana Rodriguez,
Alexis Zalutko and
Lauren Lamarca and PA major
Mikayla Reynolds went to the courts at Kirby for the last time. King's got an immediate point due to FDU-Florham only having four women, taking the point at No. 3 doubles.
Erin Weller and Nicole Delrosso would outlast Rodriguez and Reynolds 8-5 in a spirited match at No. 1 doubles to even the match at one apiece. At No. 2 doubles, Lamarca teamed with her favorite partner
Addie Atkins to pick up a clean 8-1 victory.  On the season, Lamarca has earned all three of her doubles wins this season with Atkins, while the pair is 3-3 together in 2021.
With a 2-1 lead heading to singles play, King's picked up a pair of default victories at No. 5 and No. 6 to need just one singles' win to claim the match triumph. FDU got a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles by Delrosso over Rodriguez, while Zalutko was topped 6-0, 6-0 by Kira Bradley.
At the No. 3 position, Atkins and Weller played the most competitive match of the day, as Weller earned the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6. In the second, Atkins pushed the second set to extra games but Weller was able to earn the seventh game she needed to earn a 7-6, 7-5 win.
The decisive win for the King's though came at the No. 4 singles spot, as Lamarca finished her home career with an emphatic 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Prachthasuer to propel the Monarchs to the win. Lamarca has now won three straight to end the season and four of her final five at No. 4 singles.
Despite the victory, King's will head into the 2021 MAC Freedom Tournament Quarterfinals at the No. 8 seed, taking on top-seed Wilkes University Tuesday, May 4 at a time to be announced.
