WILKES-BARRE, PA (August 24, 2021) -- The King's College wrestling squad announced its 2021-22 season slate for the upcoming year, a season that will see now second-year head coach Josh Roosa get his opportunity to send a squad to the mat after having 2020-21 canceled due to CoVID-19.
"Not to steal from the great Michael Jordan but we will keep it simple: 'we are back'," said Roosa. "We are looking forward to have the opportunity to step back in the competitive arena. Our guys will definitely be battle tested come time to compete to become NCAA qualifiers, All-Americans and National Champions."
The Monarchs start their season the same way as most previous years, hosting the Ned McGinley Invitational November 6 in McGrane Gymnasium. King's is on the road for four straight outings at Roger Williams University, Bloomsburg University, Muhlenberg College and Messiah University before returning home Dec. 11 to host Pitt-Bradford, Muhlenberg and Alvernia University in a quad-match.
The Monarchs finish the first semester with trips to the Lycoming College Duals on December 20, followed two days later with a short walk to the Marts Center for the Wilkes Open on December 22. King's returns from the Holiday break to compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at Messiah University January 15. King's then hits the road to battle Delaware Valley University January 21 and Lycoming January 29.
Four of the final five dual matches for King's come in Wilkes-Barre, taking on Oswego State and Lackawanna College February 5, before hosting Centenary University February 11. KC's final road dual meet is up I-81 to the University of Scranton on February 12, finally celebrating Senior Day against Wilkes February 17. The NCAA Regionals are slated to finish the season for King's, as the Monarchs travel to compete February 25-26 at a site to be determined.
