MALVREN, PA (September 11, 2021) -- The Mighty Macs goal just 8:09 into the game held for the game-winner as the King's College field hockey team dropped their first game of the season, 1-0, at Immaculata on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams had opportunities early on a set of corners, before Immaculata's (1-3) Kelsey Corbett scored on a quick shot off a pass to the middle from teammate Lauren Vandenbraak.
The remainder of the half was spent going back-and-forth in the middle of the field, posting a scoreless second quarter with the Monarchs trailing, 1-0, into the halftime break.
King's (2-1) came out firing to start the second half, getting two quick shots from senior
Bailey Jordan and junior
Jessie Smalley, but the Mighty Macs defense blocked both. Senior
Emily Sims also saw two openings within a minute of each other, but Immaculata goalie Julia Levase saved the pair.
The fourth quarter of action continued to be a solid defensive battle, but the Monarchs got one final shot to tie the game on a penalty corner with 52 seconds to play, but senior
Danielle Runo's shot was saved again as King's recorded their first loss, 1-0, at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The shot totals were tied for the match up, with each squad getting 12 opportunities, and the Monarchs added five penalty corners. Sophomore
Ellie Glatz was solid in goal again for the Monarchs, recording six saves. Sims led the offensive efforts, tallying four shots including three on goal, while Smalley added two shots.
King's is back in action as they travel to Susquehanna University to take on the River Hawks in non-conference play on Wednesday, September 15 at 5:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove, Pa.
