WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 18, 2021) -- The King's College Monarchs men's tennis team opened their 2021 fall season as they competed in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championships at Kirby Park on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 1 doubles pair of junior
Logan Gregory and sophomore
Joe Lennon earned the lone win for the Monarchs in the championships. The duo defeated Eastern, 8-5, before falling to DeSales, 8-1, in the quarterfinals.
At No. 1 singles, Gregory went toe-to-toe with Lebanon Valley's Brendan Byler. He recorded the win in the opening set, 4-1, but Byler responded to take the final two, 4-2, 10-8.
Lennon saw a similar feat at No. 2 singles, dropping the first set, 4-2, before battling back to take the second set, 4-3 (7-1) over Misericordia's Landon Browning. The final set went to Browning, as Lennon fell 10-7.
At No. 4 singles, sophomore
Aidan Temple dropped his first round match, 4-0, 4-0, to Jaden Bonta from Stevenson. In No. 5 singles action, first year
Cody Zheng was defeated in a real battle in his collegiate debut, 4-3 (8-6), 4-3 (7-2), to Hayden Musser from York (Pa.).
Then at No. 6 singles, first year
Jacob Nelson handed Josh Gingerich from Messiah a 4-3 (7-5) loss in the opening set before falling in the last two, 4-1, 10-8. Finally, after a first round bye, first year
Alex Nole lost his quarterfinal matchup to Brian Li from Stevens, 4-0, 4-0.
In the No. 2 doubles match, Temple and senior
Nick Harth were defeated by Lycoming, 8-7 (8-3), while the No. 3 doubles pair of Nelson and Zheng dropped their opener, 8-0, to the third-seeded Lebanon Valley duo.
The Monarchs are back in action as they host Cairn University on Tuesday, September 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Kirby Park.
