Men's Soccer Post 2-1 Win Over Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (September 29, 2021) --- The King's College men's soccer team defeated Penn College 2-1 on Wednesday evening at UPMC Field.

The Monarchs didn't waste any time getting on the board, as Buck Diacont scored the game's opening goal just five minutes in on a header past Penn College goalkeeper Braeden Eckard. Trevor Jones played a dime into the box to find Diacont for the assist. The goal marked the first of Diacont's career.

The Monarchs continued to attack, as Kyle Shalvey unleashed a pair shots early in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net. Penn College fought hard to find the equalizer before halftime, but the King's defense held strong to maintain a 1-0 lead going into the break.

The Wildcats started the second half off with an early shot at goal that missed wide. The Monarchs immediately took to the counter attack and were able to get a shot on goal, as Shane Serio headed the ball towards the net, but Eckard came up with the save.

King's would add to their tally in the 55th minute when Shalvey notched his first goal of the season off an assist from Jones, his second helper of the night. PC answered straight away in the following minute when Colton Wartman scored to bring the Wildcats within one.

The Monarchs dropped to 10 men after Pat Holton was shown a red card in the 70th minute. Penn College nearly leveled the match in the 79th minute, but Chris McFarland's shot just missed and hit the post. King's maintained control the remainder of the match, despite being down a man, and went on to earn a 2-1 victory.

Shalvey's 55th minute score proved to be the game-winner for the Monarchs. Shalvey also led the team in shots with four, along with Alex Showalter. Justin Decoteau added three shots while Cole Catherman made a career high six saves in net for King's and earned his first career win.

The Monarchs will now focus on the beginning of conference play as they prepare to travel to FDU-Florham on Tuesday evening. Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Robert T. Shields Field.
