Box Score MADISON, NJ (October 5, 2021) --- The King's College men's soccer team scored three goals in the first half to beat FDU-Florham 3-2 in their first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom contest of the season.
The Monarchs came out of the gates strong, scoring the game's first goal in the ninth minute when
Buck Diacont received a through ball from
Kyle Shalvey and tucked his shot into the bottom right corner. Just four minutes later Shalvey added to the tally for KC when he crashed the net on a ball into the box from
Aziz Atiyeh and beat out the keeper to find the back of the net.
Both sides continued to create chances on goal in the first half, but it was King's who hit the mark again in the 40th minute when
Aidan Oyler scored his first goal of the season.
Evan Egnatovich played in a low corner kick towards the center of the 18 yard box and Oyler timed his run perfectly to hit the ball in stride and into the back of the net leaving the Devil goalkeeper, Tiernan Grey, no chance.
The second half got off to a physical start, as four yellow cards were handed out in the first 15 minutes. FDU-Florham scored their first goal of the match in the 61th minute on a penalty kick taken by Oliver Trujillo. King's goalkeeper
Cole Catherman came up big in the 74th minute by keeping out a header shot from the Devils.
FDU-Florham scored a late goal in the 90th minute to bring themselves within one, but it was too late as the Monarchs posted a 3-2 victory over the Devils. Shalvey had a great performance with a goal and an assist for King's. Diacont led KC with five total shots including three on goal. Catherman added a season-high eight saves in net for the Monarchs.
King's will return to Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Stevens Institute of Technology at 330 pm in McCarthy Stadium.
