Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Ice Hockey Battled Tough In Defeat To Arcadia

PITTSTON, PA (January 17, 2022) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team battled for a full 60 minutes against Arcadia University in a 7-0 defeat to the Knights on Monday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

The Monarchs kept the game extremely close through two periods until Arcadia scored four times in five minutes during the middle of the third period. The Knights got off to a strong start scoring twice in the first two minutes of the game as Ariel Williamson tallied her third goal of the year 39 seconds in before Morganne Dee scored her fourth at 1:57. King's responded to the early deficit with a strong defensive performance the rest of the period to keep the Knights at bay. Offensively, the Monarchs managed to get off shots against the Knights throughout the game but were unable to solve Sophia Szelag in goal and the defense in front of her.

King's best chance to score in the first period came during their second power play opportunity as Jordan Dittmar and Becca Allen had their attempts at goal stopped by Szelag. The Monarchs came out of the first intermission as the aggressor and started to shift the momentum of the game in their favor despite being down two goals. Ali Noeding, Savannah Willard, Sam Kulman, Audrey Martin, and Allen had shots saved during the first 13 minutes of the period. The Knights increased their lead with a power play goal by Drew Kuretsky at 15:15 just a second before the extra-woman opportunity expired.

The Monarchs had a similar start to the third period as they did the second using an early power play opportunity to show their offensive strength against the visitors. Meghan Mietlicki had her shot blocked before Noeding had her rebound shot saved. Later in the opportunity Erin King and Noeding had back-to-back shots saved by Szelag keeping the Monarchs off the board. King, Noeding, Mietlicki, Kait Wolf, and Martin kept the pressure on the Knights following the successful kill but were unfortunately unable to score. Arcadia responded to the attack with their final four goals of the game in a five-minute span. Campbell Torrey started the scoring with her second goal of the season at 8:31. A little over 30 seconds later Dee tallied her second goal of the game to increase the lead to 5-0. At 11:23 Bridgit Terry scored her second of the year 20 second into a power play opportunity. Berklee Hibbard scored off a cross-ice pass at 13:34 to set the final score.

Noeding led the Monarchs with five of the team's 16 shots. Allen and King added three shots each. Josée Aitken had a strong day of faceoffs winning 12 of 18 attempts. Syd Dahl made 29 saves in goal including 19 in the second period before being replaced by Juli Wilson in the third period. Wilson made five saves in her 11:29 minutes of action.

King's will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon when they travel back down the Northeast Extension to finish their season series with Neumann. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Rink 4 at the IceWorks Skating Complex in Aston.
