Noeding Tallies Breakaway Goal And Assist At Neumann

ASTON, PA (January 18, 2022) – Senior captain Ali Noeding had a career-high day of one goal and one assist to lead the King's College women's ice hockey team in a tough 5-2 loss at Neumann University on Tuesday afternoon.

A weary Monarch squad who were playing their third game in four days battled hard for the full 60 minutes against the Knights who are in the midst of a similar stretch but had a few days offs since the first meeting between the squads on Saturday.

The hosts started the game strong keeping the puck down in their offensive zone for the first few minutes of action, but the Monarch defense stood tall and didn't allow a shot until a little over two minutes into the game. King's was called for the first penalty of the game at 3:32 and held the Knights off the scoreboard during the kill as Syd Dahl made four saves and four shots went wide. Neumann struck first at 7:26 when Mikaylee Henhawk sent a shot from the point past a crowd of skaters and into the upper right corner of the goal for her third of the season.

King's responded valiantly with as the offense started to come alive and they started to control the puck more against the Knights. Meghan Mietlicki continued her excellent play against the Knights with her third goal on a rocket from the right circle at 13:30. Noeding and Ani Quindipan received assists on the play after working the puck around the back of the goal and to the stick of Mietlicki. The assist for Noeding was her second of the year and third of her career while Quindipan recorded her first career point. The Knights would retake the lead a couple minutes later as Jasmine Martinez snuck a shot into the back of the net at 15:01 for her second goal of the year. Lian Sydorowicz increased the lead to 3-1 heading into the first intermission with her second goal of the year with 44 seconds left in the period.

The second period belonged to the Monarchs as they came out of the break on a mission and dominated possession during the period and kept the puck in their offensive zone for the majority of period. Noeding cut the lead in half at 5:43 with a breakaway goal down the right side in front of the King's bench. Noeding beat the Knight goalie to the upper right corner for her first goal of the year and second of her career. Following the goal King's went on a power play and blasted the puck towards the net seven times during the two minutes but were unable to light the lamp. Josée Aitken, Mietlicki, Savannah Willard, and Emma Dos Santos all had shots saved. The Monarchs would find themselves with another woman advantage a full minute later and continued their pursuit of the tying goal as Noeding and Erin King had shots saved while Dos Santos had her attempt blocked.

The Monarchs began the third period on the power play after being unable to find the tying goal in the second period. Neumann kept the Monarchs off the scoreboard during the penalty kill and earned a power play of their own two minutes into the period. The Knights were able to increase their lead as Katelyn Brown scored her sixth goal of the season 1:15 into the opportunity. Neumann would score their final goal of the afternoon at 9:48 as Emma Tauken scored her first goal 1:43 into another power play opportunity.

Noeding finished with two points and a team-high five shots. King took four shots and blocked three while Mietlicki scored a goal and blocked a team-high four shots. Aitken had another fantastic day on faceoffs winning a game-high 19 on 24 attempts. Dahl made 11 saves in the first and third periods while stopping all eight shots she saw in the second period for a total of 30 saves on the game.

King's will now have a few days to rest before hosting Stevenson University this weekend at Revolution Ice Centre for a pair of games. The Monarchs and Mustangs will play on Friday afternoon at 3 pm before wrapping up the season series on Saturday at 2 pm.
