PITTSTON, PA (January 21, 2022) --
Ani Quindipan scored her first career goal in the first period for the King's College women's ice hockey team in a 6-1 loss to visiting Stevenson University in the first of two United Collegiate Hockey Conference and Middle Atlantic Conference games between the two teams this weekend. Senior Josee Aitken recorded her 30th career point with an assist on the play.
The Mustangs scored first 11 second into the game as Ally Gibson snuck a shot into the upper corner of the net for her third goal of the season. Five minutes later the Mustangs increased their lead when Cassie Campbell lit the lamp for the fifth time this year forcing the Monarchs to call an early timeout. The Monarchs came out of the timeout with a vengeance as
Erin King and
Savannah Willard blasted shots at goal that were saved by Ainsley King in net. Quindipan scored her goal at 8:41 as her shot from the blue line got past King and into the back of the net. Aitken and
Meghan Mietlicki tallied assists on the goal giving Aitken her third of the year, 16th of her career and program-leading 30th career point. Mietlicki continued her strong play on the week with her second assist of the year and 11th of her career.
Stevenson responded with a goal of their own a little under a minute later as Katelyn Reid scored her second of the season to give the Mustangs a 3-1 advantage going into the second period. King's battled the Mustangs tough in the second period but the visitors were able to score three times in the period to bring the lead to 6-1. KaliJo Zagula started the scoring at 3:50 as she knocked in a rebound for her second of the year. Tea Ferrara scored the final two goals for Stevenson, first off her own rebound at 12:46, and then scored at 14:42 following a faceoff. Neither team scored in an exciting third period that featured a lot of defense.
King led the Monarchs in shots with four while
Ali Noeding, Aitken, Willard, and Quindipan took two shots each. The Monarchs blocked 19 shots topped by Mietlicki with six and Emma Dos Santon with five.
Jordan Dittmar won a team-high eight faceoffs.
Syd Dahl made 29 saves in 32:46 minutes of action while
Hannah Bowers made 28 saves in 27:14 minutes.
The Monarchs and Mustangs will wrap up their season series on Saturday with a 2 pm puck drop at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
