PITTSTON, PA (January 29, 2022) -- For the second straight game a King's College women's ice hockey skater scored her first career goal as
Tessa Deemer lit the lamp in the second period of a 6-1 defeat to Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon at the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.
Deemer's goal came 1:44 into the second period to cut the AMC lead to 2-1 after the Amcats scored two late goals in the first period. A day after scoring her first goal,
Emma Clark assisted on Deemer's goal for her second assist of the year. Both Clark and Deemer just stepped onto the ice following a line change. Deemer got a stick on a pass inside the blue line and the puck found its way to Clark's stick. Clark took a shot that banged off the goalie's pads and straight to Deemer who poked the puck into the back of the net.
Anna Maria scored two goals in each period led by Jordyn Bleaney who scored late in the second and in the middle of the third period. Bleaney also assisted on the final goal of the game. Angelina Rodriguez also had a pair of goals including the game-winning goal.
The Monarchs withstood an aggressive AMC squad that committed nine penalties including five in the final 10 minutes and had two disqualifications. King's mounted a furious attempt at a comeback taking advantage of being a woman-up for nearly the entire final 10 minutes putting 19 shots on goal in the third period alone. However, none of the 19 shots managed to find the back of the net.
The Amcats finished with a slight 35-31 shot advantage.
Ali Noeding topped the squad with six shots while Josee Aitken,
Erin King, and Clark and four shots each. Aitken had another strong day on faceoffs winning 10 out of 16.
Juli Wilson made her first career start and stopped a season-high 29 shots.
Audrey Martin led the defense with three of the team's 11 blocked shots.
King's will hit the road next weekend as they take on seventh-ranked Nazareth College on Friday and Saturday up in Rochester, NY. Game times are scheduled for a 7 pm puck drop on Friday and 2 pm start on Saturday.
