Frenkel Scores Program Record Two Power Play Goals At Plattsburgh State

PLATTSBURGH, NY (January 9, 2022) -- First year forward Aaron Frenkel scored a program record two power play goals as the King's College men's ice hockey team dropped an 8-2 decision at Plattsburgh State on Sunday evening in the final game of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic.

Frenkel became the third Monarch to have a multi-goal game this season while becoming the first King's skater to score two power play goals in the same game. The multi-point game is Frenkel's fourth of the year.

The host Cardinal scored twice in the first period to take the lead. Thomas Maia tallied his fifth goal of the year at 5:36 before Matt Araujo scored from the point on a power play opportunity at 18:32. Plattsburgh State put 26 shots on goal in the opening period with Brandon Daigle making 24 saves.

The Monarchs offense came out strong to begin the second period with Frenkel scoring his second goal of the year at 2:18. Josh Edwards and Tyler Blanchard earned assisted on the goal which came from the right side. The assist was the third of the year for Edwards and 10th of his career while Blanchard recorded his team-leading 10th assist. The hosts responded a minute later as Jack Ring scored his first goal of the season to give the Cardinals a 3-1 advantage. Joey Mancuso lit the lamp twice to give Plattsburgh State a 5-1 lead heading into the final period. He scored his eighth goal of the season at 11:20 and then ripped a shot just before the period ended with the Cardinals on the power play.

Frenkel cut the lead down to three goals with his second power play goal of the game 5:12 into the final period as he tipped in a shot by Blanchard. Zach Satalino also received an assist on the goal. The assist was the third on the year for Satalino while Blanchard recorded his second multi-assist game of the year. Maia, Christian DiFelice, and Bennett Stockdale all scored in the final 10 minutes of the game for the Cardinals to set the final score.

The Monarch offense took 24 shots against a traditionally very strong Plattsburgh team. Frenkel topped the squad with five shots while Luke Babilon had four. Brandon Daigle finished with 45 saves in goal to give him 93 saves on the weekend. Defensively, King's blocked 18 shots led by Satalino with four. Blanchard led the team on faceoffs winning seven of his 11 attempts.

King's will return to conference play next weekend with one of their longest road trips of the year. The Monarchs will face Chatham on Friday night at 7:00 pm in Valencia, PA before taking on Stevenson on Saturday in Reistertown, MD for a 3:00 pm puck drop.
