HOBOKEN, NJ (October 1, 2022) --- The King's College men's soccer team faced third ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, battling the Ducks to the end, but ultimately falling 2-0 in Hoboken, NJ. With the loss, the Monarchs dropped to 4-5-2 on the season, while the Ducks improved to 8-0-1.
It was a physical affair to begin, but Stevens (8-0-1) got the first shot of the game off, forcing junior goalkeeper
Jake Forst into a save in the 10
th minute. King's (4-5-2) responded quickly though, tallying their first shot just over a minute later. However, it was Stevens who struck first, after a long ball was played down the win, and the shot found the net, putting the Ducks up 1-0 in the 14
th minute. Following the Stevens goal, the King's offense upped their attack, firing off four shots in the span of four minutes. The Ducks would tally the final two shots of the half, but Forst was up to the task, keeping the game 1-0 heading into the break.
Stevens came out of the half looking to extend the lead, getting three corner kicks and three shots in the opening five minutes, but the King's defense was up to the task. After the opening barrage, the teams traded shots over the next thirty minutes, before the Ducks were able to double their advantage in the 82
nd minute. The Monarchs continued to push offensively, looking to get back into the game, but were unable to find the net, as the game ended 2-0 in favor of the Ducks.
Stevens held the advantage on shots in the match 17-9, but the shots on target were much closer, with the Ducks only holding a 7-4 edge.
Junior
Liam Yair led the offensive attack for King's tallying three shots, with one on target, while sophomore
Shane Serio added two shots, including one on target. Meanwhile, senior
Aziz Atiyeh, sophomores
Dylan Domchek and
Evan Egnatovich, and first-year
Philip Permyashkin all added a single shot. Forst once again got the start in goal, turning away five of seven shots faced, picking up the loss.
For the Ducks, Bruno Andino and Emerico Vespucci both tallied two points in the contest, each scoring once, while Adam Silva picked up one point on an assist. Justin Cross received the start in goal, making four saves for the clean sheet.
King's will look to bounce back, as the Monarchs host Delaware Valley University on Wednesday afternoon in MAC Freedom action from McCarthy Stadium, with kickoff set for 4 pm.
