GLENSIDE, PA (October 15, 2022) --- The King's College men's soccer team dropped another close contest, falling to Arcadia University 1-0 on Saturday in Glenside, PA. With the loss King's falls to 4-9-2 overall and 0-4-0 in MAC play, while Arcadia improves to 7-4-4 and 1-2-1 in conference play.
It was a back-and-forth first half, as Arcadia (7-4-4, 1-2-1) opened the contest getting the first shot of the game in the seventh minute. King's (4-9-2, 0-4-0) got their first shot in the 16
th minute, as junior
Liam Yair's effort forced a save from Jake Varrato. Arcadia finished the half, tallying five of the last six shots, but the squads were evenly matched through the opening 45 minutes, as the game entered the half still scoreless.
Coming out of the half, Arcadia once again tallied the first shot of the period in the 49
th minute. King's responded however, tallying the next shot, as senior
Justin Decoteau's effort went wide. The Knights took over from that point, firing off the next six shots, including the ice breaker from Zac Runkle off a corner in the 73
rd minute, beating junior goalkeeper
Jake Forst and putting Arcadia on top 1-0. Following the Arcadia goal, King's looked for an equalizer as Decoteau and senior
Aziz Atiyeh had efforts at goal, but the Monarchs were unable to find the net, giving the Knights a 1-0 win.
Arcadia outshot King's 21-5 overall, including a 9-2 clip on shots on target.
Decoteau led the Monarchs' attack totaling two shots, as Atiyeh added one, while Yair and junior
Buck Diacont contributed a shot on target each. Forst got the start in net, making eight saves on nine shots, picking up the loss.
Arcadia was led by Runkel who tallied two points on one goal, adding two shots, both of which were on target. Declan Kelly added one point, picking up the assist on Runkle's goal. Steven Warren collected five shots, with two on target, while Ethan Torpey and Chris Fletcher added two shots a piece. Varrato got the start in goal, making two saves, picking up the win
King's will return home to host Lycoming College in a Wednesday night MAC Freedom Contest, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
