Women's Swimming Drops Opener to Marywood

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 15, 2022)--- The King's College Monarchs women's swimming team put up a great effort in their opening meet, but fell to the Marywood University Pacers 93-66 on Saturday afternoon at Scandlon Natorium. With this loss the Monarchs drop to 0-1 while the Pacers start out the season 1-0. 

The first event that King's took part in for the women was the 200 yard freestyle. This event saw Marywood sophomore Sabrina Zieger defeat King's sophomore Roni McClelland. Zieger finished with a time of 2:13.41 while McClelland's final time was 2:30.30.

The Monarchs first win on the day came from sophomore Maddison Quick in the 50 free. She won with a time of 26.97. Senior Liz Savidge followed this win with one of her own as she took the 200 individual medley at 2:30.23. 

The next win for King's happened in the 100 free where junior Jamie Navarro edged out Marywood junior Elise Shore for a finish of 1:00.83. Savidge would get her second win on the day in the 100 back with a time of 1:07.64. Quick would then come in first in the 500 free with a time of 6:02.25 for her second top finish.

In the 100 breast sophomore Samantha Peck of Marywood finished in first with a time of 1:18.47. Navarro was second with a time of 1:18.76, and McClelland fourth at 1:28.53.

The final women's event of the meet was the 200 free relay where Savidge, Navarro, McClelland and Quick combined for a time of 1:59.61. 
 
The women's swimming team will be on the road for the first time this season next Saturday.. They will travel to Radnorm PA and take on Cabrini University at 1:00 p.m.
