FDU Scores Two Second Half Goals to Sink Men's Soccer 2-0

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 22, 2022) --- The King's College men's soccer team dropped their final home game of the season, falling to visiting FDU-Florham 2-0 on Saturday night. With the loss King's falls to 4-11-2 overall and 0-6 in MAC play, while FDU improves to 8-3-4 and 3-1-2 in conference play.

It was an even first half, as FDU (8-3-4, 3-1-2) registered the first shot at 2:55. King's (4-11-2, 0-6) responded with the next two shots, with the first coming from junior Mike Davies at 3:23. The squads traded shots for the remainder of the half, though each team went on a run, firing off consecutive shots for a spell. Neither team scored in the half, as the squads entered the break even.

After the break, the Devils recorded the first shot at 50:18, before opening the scoring in the 53rd minute. Mattia Assante Di Cuppillo snuck a shot just past the dive of junior goalkeeper Jake Forst, inside the left post at 52:25. King's responded with a shot three minutes later, but first-year Philip Permyashkin's effort went high. The teams once again traded shots, before FDU added an insurance marker in the 81st minute. Drilon Toska's shot beat the charging Forst, as the Devils extended the lead to 2-0 at 80:30. The Monarchs looked for a tally to get back into the game, but were unable to find the net, as the Devils hung on for the 2-0 win.

FDU held a slim edge on shots 18-14, while also holding a 7-4 lead on shots on target. King's however held the advantage on corner kicks 4-2.

Sophomore Evan Egnatovich and first-year Luke Ferre recorded three shots in the contest to lead the Monarchs. Meanwhile, sophomore Austin Miller, Davies, and Permyashkin all added two shots. Forst got the start in net making five saves on seven shots.

Toska and Assante Di Cuppillo paced the FDU attack, as both collected two points on their goals. Toska recorded five shots, including two on target, while Assante Di Cuppillo added four shots and two on target. Diego Trujillo also added five shots for the Devils. Tiernan Grey made the start in net making four saves in the win.

King's will travel to Dallas, PA to take on Misericordia on Tuesday night, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
