WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 11, 2022) --- Sophomore goaltender
Syd Dahl made a career-high 67 saves as the King's College women's ice hockey team fell to visiting Utica University 10-0 on Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre. With the loss King's falls to 0-3-0 overall and 0-3-0 in UCHC, while the Pioneers improve to 2-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.
Utica (2-1-1, 2-0-1) started quickly as the Pioneers jumped in front on a goal by Maggie Rylott at 3:51. Utica doubled their five and a half minutes later, as Hailey Modlin scored at 9:29. King's (0-3-0, 0-3-0) responded quickly tallying their first shot of the contest, as graduate student
Issy Lebrun had her effort turned aside. The teams headed into the first intermission with Utica on top 2-0.Â

The second period was much like the first as Dahl faced a barrage of shots, but the sophomore was up to the task. Utica kept up the pressure extending their lead to three at 6:27, before tallying twice more to take a 5-0 lead after two periods of play. The Pioneers added five more goals in the third period, as Utica took the contest 10-0.Â

Dahl was outstanding in net, facing 77 shots in the contes, and coming away with a career-high 67 saves. Lebrun led the Monarch offense, tallying two shots on goal, while six other Monarchs added a single shot a piece. King's won 18 of 67 face-offs, being led by first-year
Madison Vaughan, who won seven of 18, and sophomore
Jordan Dittmar who won five of 17. King's went 0-2 on the power play as well as 0-2 on the penalty kill.Â

Two goalies played in net for the Pioneers as Angela Hawthorne made three saves to pick up the win, while Lauryn Brown made five saves. Offensively, Utica was led by Erica Sloan and Cortney Staniszewski who both collected two goals. The Pioneers won 49 of 67 face-offs and went 2-2 on both the power play and penalty kill.Â
King's will look to bounce back in the second game against Utica on Saturday at Revolution Ice Centre at 3 p.m.Â
