WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 12, 2022) --- First-year goaltender
Hayley Packer made 71 saves as the King's College women's hockey team fell to visiting Utica University 10-0 on Saturday from Revolution Ice Centre With the loss King's falls to 0-4-0 overall and 0-4-0 in UCHC play, while Utica improves to 3-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play.
Utica (3-1-1, 3-0-1) started quickly as the Pioneers tallied 20 of the first 21 shots of the contest, before opening the scoring at 11:41 on a goal from Tess Barrett. King's (0-4-0, 0-4-0), however got a chance to equalize with a late power-play, but Utica goaltender Maddie Esposito made three stops in the final two minutes to keep Utica on top 1-0 after the first period.Â

The second period was much like the first as Packer faced an onslaught of Pioneers shots, making 21 saves on 24 shots in the period before being removed for precautionary reasons, returning for the third period. Utica tallied five goals in the middle stanza to take a 6-0 lead into the second intermission. With Packer back in net for the third, she once again faced a barrage of shots, making 31 saves in the period, as Utica added four more goals, to take the game 10-0.Â

In just her second career start, Packer made 71 saves on 81 shots, while sophomore goalie
Syd Dahl added nine saves on 11 shots in just over six minutes of play. Four Monarchs recorded a shot on goal, as sophomores
Becca Allen and
Jordan Dittmar recorded one each, and first-years
Payton Lloyd and
Madison Vaughan added one a piece. King's won 15 of 63 face-offs, being led by Dittmar and first-year
Olivia McTavish who both won four face-offs on the afternoon. King's went 0-3 on the power play and 3-6 on the penalty kill.Â

Maddie Esposito made four saves in the win for Utica. Gerogiana Santullo led Utica on offense, tallying two goals, while eight other Pioneers tallied one goal. Utica won 48 of 63 face-offs and went 3-6 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.Â
King's will hit the road next weekend as the Monarchs travel to Pittsburgh to take on Chatham University on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.Â
