Dos Santos Scores as Women's Hockey Falls 8-1 to Chatham

PITTSBURGH, PA (November 19, 2022) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team fell to host Chatham University 8-1 on Saturday in Pittsburgh, PA. With the loss, King's falls to 0-6-0 overall and 0-6-0 in UCHC play, while Chatham improves to 3-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.
 
Chatham (3-4-1, 3-2-1) started quickly, but first-year goaltender Hayley Packer was up to the task, holding the Cougars at bay, until Chatham broke through at 11:59 to open the scoring. King's (0-6-0, 0-6-0) responded with some chances but were unable to find an equalizer, before the Cougars scored twice in the final minute to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
 
Chatham came out quickly in the second period, scoring twice in the opening three minutes to extend the lead to 5-0, before adding a sixth goal at 17:14 to take a 6-0 lead after the second period. The Cougars scored early again in the third period, before junior Emma Dos Santos found the net, on assists from first-years Holly Catarius and Svetlana Yarosh, to cut the Chatham lead to 7-1 at 8:57. Chatham added one more goal in the third period to take the contest 8-1.
 
Packer got the start in net, making 61 saves on 69 shots. Offensively, King's was led by Dos Santos who tallied a goal, while Catarius and Yarosh both added an assist. The Monarchs won 18 of 59 face-offs, led by sophomore Jordan Dittmar who won 11 of 21. King's went 0-5 on the power play and 2-3 on the penalty kill.
 
Sam Brophy made 12 saves on 13 shots, picking up the win in goal for the Cougars. Offensively, Chatham was led by Allison Corser-James who recorded five points, three goals and two assists. The Cougars won 41 of 59 face-offs and went 1-3 on the power play and 5-5 on the penalty kill.
 
King's returns to action on Friday, as the Monarchs travel to New York to take on SUNY Potsdam at 7 p.m.
