Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Falls to SUNY Potsdam 9-0 on Friday

POTSDAM, NY (November 25, 2022) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team fell to SUNY Potsdam 9-0 on Friday evening. With the loss the Monarchs fall to 0-7-0, while the Bears improve to 3-3-0.

Potsdam (3-3-0) started quickly, as the Bears fired off the opening 11 shots of the game, but sophomore goaltender Syd Dahl was up to the task, turning away all the shots away. King's (0-7-0, 0-6-0) responded with the next two shots of the contest, coming from first-years Svetlana Yarosh and Olivia McTavish, but the Monarchs were unable to break through. Potsdam eventually broke through at 13:04 on a goal from Alex Quinn, before doubling their lead with just nine seconds left in the period on a goal from Taylor Swamp to go into the first intermission leading King's 2-0.

The Monarchs came out quickly in the second period, tallying the first two shots of the frame, as McTavish and graduate student Issy Lebrun's efforts were turned away. However, the Bears took over, scoring two goals in a span of just over a minute, as Kaylee Merrill and Alessia Marandola scored at 3:38 and 4:44 respectively to double the lead to 4-0. Potsdam added two more goals midway through the period, to take a 6-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Once again Potsdam started quickly, scoring three goals in the opening eight minutes of the third period to go on top 9-0. King's did not go away quietly however, rattling off 11 of the final 12 shots of the contest, over the final 10 minutes of play, but the Monarchs were unable to find the net, falling to Potsdam 9-0.

Dahl made 32 saves on 41 shots in net, picking up the loss. McTavish and Lebrun led the Monarchs offense, as both tallied six shots on goal, while Yarosh and sophomores Kait Wolf and Jordan Dittmar all added two shots. King's won 15 of 68 face-offs, paced by Dittmar who won 4 of 22. The Monarchs went 0-5 on the power play, while going 2-4 on the penalty kill.

Magalie Parent made 22 saves in net for Potsdam picking up the win, while Merrill paced the offense with four points, two goals and two assists, while Swamp and Quinn both added three points. The Bears won 53 of 68 face-offs, while going 2-4 on the power play and 5-5 on the penalty kill.
