Women's Hockey Battles Hard, Falls to Potsdam 3-0

POTSDAM, NY (November 26, 2022) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team battled hard, but ultimately fell to SUNY Potsdam 3-0 on Saturday. With the loss, King's falls to 0-8-0, while Potsdam improves to 4-3-0. 
 
Potsdam (4-3-0) started quickly, as the Bears fired off the first three shots of the game. King's (0-8-0, 0-6-0) responded with their first shot of the game at 4:45, but sophomore Becca Allen's effort was turned aside. The teams traded chances for the remainder of the period, but the squads stayed knotted at zero after 20 minutes of play. 
 
Potsdam once again opened the period, tallying the first two shots, before junior Sam Kulman's effort was stopped. The Bears opened the scoring, at 4:07, as Kaylee Merrill's effort beat sophomore goaltender Syd Dahl, to give Potsdam the 1-0 lead. Trailing by a goal, the Monarchs got two power plays, but King's was unable to break through for the equalizer, before late in the period, Potsdam doubled their lead to 2-0 at 18:43 on a goal from Rebecca Cain, to give the Bears a 2-0 lead after the second period. 
 
Potsdam scored quickly into the third period, to go up 3-0, on Merrill's second goal of the game, at 3:20. The Monarchs pushed to get on the board but were unable to find the back of the net, as first-years Svetlana Yarosh and Olivia McTavish had efforts turned away late in the game, as King's fell 3-0. 
 
Dahl had a strong game in net, making 37 saves on 40 shots. Offensively, the Monarchs were led by graduate student Issy Lebrun who tallied three shots, while McTavish, Allen, and Kulman all added two shots in the loss. King's was competitive in the face-off circle, winning 25 of 57 face-offs, led by sophomore Jordan Dittmar who won seven of 21, and first-year Madison Vaughan who won six of ten. The Monarchs went 0-6 on the power play, but were strong on the penalty kill, going 4-4. 
 
Madely Adamic got the start in goal for Potsdam, making 11 saves in the win. Offensively, Merrill paced the Bears, totaling three points, two goals and one assist, while Cain added two points, one goal and one assist. Potsdam who 32 of 57 face-offs, and went 0-4 on the power play, while going 6-6 on the penalty kill. 
 
King's returns home to take on cross-town foe Wilkes University at Revolution Ice Centre at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.
