Women's Hockey Falls to Manhattanville 10-0

PURCHASE, NY (November 5, 2022) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team dropped the second game of the season-opening road trip to Manhattanville, falling to the Valiants 10-0 on Saturday in Purchase, NY. With the loss King's falls to 0-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in UCHC play, while Manhattanville moves to 2-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.

Manhattanville (2-0-0, 2-0-0) started quickly as Morgan Miller opened the scoring at 2:45. Just over two minutes later the Valiants doubled their lead as Gabrielle Cox scored at 5:04. Following Valiants second goal, King's (0-2-0, 0-2-0) got their first power play of the game but were unable to convert. The Valiants added two more goals late in the period to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission. 
 
The second period was much like the first, but first-year goaltender Hayley Packer was up to the task keeping Manhattanville at bay, until the Valiants broke through at 10:58 on Cox's second goal of the game. Manhattanville added two more goals before the end of the period, leading 7-0 after 40 minutes of play. Manhattanville added three more goals in the third period, but that was all the scoring as King's fell 10-0. 

Packer performed admirably in her collegiate debut, picking up the loss in net, making 43 saves on 53 shots. First-year Olivia McTavish and graduate student Issy Lebrun led the Monarchs offense as each recorded two shots. King's won 21 of 65 in the face-off circle, led by McTavish who went 8-20 and first-year Madison Vaughan who went 6-18. The Monarchs went 0-4 on the power play, and 6-7 on the penalty kill. 
 
Jewells Austin picked up the win in net stopping all 11 shots faced. Cox led the Valiants offense, tallying five goals on nine shots, adding an assist. Manhattanville won 44 of 65 face-offs in the contest, while going 1-7 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill. 

King's will return to Wilke-Barre for the home opener on Friday night, as the Monarchs host Utica University at 7 p.m. at Revolution Ice Centre.
