WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 11, 2022) -- Senior
Isaac Mensah recorded his fifth pin of the season in 4:53 to lead the King's College wrestling team in a 29-18 loss to Centenary University on Friday evening in McGrane Gymnasium.
First year
Kyle Miller earned a win in the 125 bout to give King's the early lead. The Cyclones then won the next two matchups at 133 and 141 to take a 12-6 advantage. A 14-3 major decision by Centenary's Cameron Bruffy at 149 saw the Monarchs trailing, 16-6.
King's got its second win of the day from first year
Bret Murphy at 157 as he earned a 5-3 decision over Adrian Pietri for his third of the season. Another Cyclones pin saw the Centenary lead increase to 22-9 before senior
Kade Kravits earned a 3-2 decision for his 14
th of the year over Haakon Mathewson, inching the Monarchs within 22-12.
A heartbreaking 7-5 decision loss in extra time by
Billy Grace at 184 saw the Monarchs trail, 25-12, before another Cyclones decision at 197 set up the Mensah pin at 285 as Mensah closed out the final ticks of the second period to pin Centenary's Aaon Llanas in 4:53.
King's is back in action as they have a quick turnaround, heading up to the University of Scranton on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the John Long Center.
