Monarch Men Pick Up MAC Freedom Win on Senior Day

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 12, 2022) -- The King's College men's basketball team broke out of a losing streak as they earned an important MAC Freedom win, 58-53, over the visiting FDU-Florham on senior day Saturday afternoon in McGrane Gymnasium.

King's (7-13, 3-11 MAC Freedom) started the senior day contest strong as the four seniors all hit a three in the opening minutes to lead, 12-7, with 14:33 to go in the half. FDU-Florham (4-19, 0-14 MAC Freedom) kept it close, tying the contest at 28 a piece heading into the halftime locker room.

After a back-and-forth start to the second half, the Devils built an eight-point advantage, 45-37, with 9:25 to play before the Monarchs scored eight consecutive points to tie the game at 45 with 7:22 left. This competitive contest saw teams trade baskets before a big three from sophomore Peri Basimakopoulos after an offensive rebound from senior JJ Glinsky kept the possession alive to put King's ahead, 51-48, and force a Devils timeout with 4:09 remaining in the game.

FDU-Florham hit a three out of the break, but the Devils put the Monarchs on the line down the stretch where the hosts went 7-of-8 in the final 3:06 of play to earn the MAC Freedom win, 58-53, on senior day in McGrane Gymnasium.

Senior Noah Tanner paced the Monarchs offense on senior day, recording 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting, adding a team-high four assists. Junior Collin Cook connected for 11 points while collecting six boards, while first year Eamonn Walsh pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Additionally, first year Chris Patton filled the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds, and a team-high four steals.

Oliver Ortman led FDU-Florham with a game-high 15 points, playing the full 40-minute game, with nine boards, four assists, and two steals.

The Monarchs shot 33.3 percent (19-57) for the game, assisting on 13 of their 19 baskets. Their defense also forced 15 Devils turnovers and collected nine steals, while King's won the battle on the boards, 38-33. Inside the box score, the Monarchs earned the advantage in points off turnovers (14-12), second chance points (14-7), bench points (31-13), points in the paint (14-8), and fast break points (4-0).

King's is back in action on Tuesday evening for an important MAC Freedom matchup at cross-town rival Wilkes University with an 8:00 p.m. tip off in the MAC Freedom doubleheader.
