WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 17, 2022) --- On Thursday evening, the King's College wrestling team honored its three seniors,
Shawn Burke,
Kade Kravits, and
Isaac Mensah, for their hard work and dedication throughout their Monarchs careers.
KC put up a strong effort against a very competitive opponent in the Colonels, but were defeated 28-10. Gustav Petruske IV,
Noah Clawson, and Kravits all picked up wins on the day for the Monarchs.
After dropping the first bout of the day at 125, King's bounced back at 133 as Petruske fought his way to a 9-7 decision win over Jack Bauer. The junior Monarch earned late points in the third period to take a closely contested victory and bring his squad within three points of WU. The win rejuvenated the King's squad as they headed into the next bout.
Clawson built off of Petruske's momentum and gave Josef Lundin all he had at 141. Clawson gained control of the match in the second period and carried on the rest of the way to earn a highly significant four point major decision win for King's. With Clawson's win, the Monarchs would take a 7-6 lead in the meet.
Wilkes responded with three consecutive wins at 149, 157, and 165 to take a 16-7 lead headed into the 174 pound bout. At 174, Kravits and John Devito went back an forth all match, each defending well to keep their opponent at bay. Kravits earned a crucial point to earn a 1-0 decision win over Devito and bring the score to 16-10 in favor of the Colonels.
Wilkes would go on to win the final three heavyweight bouts and defeat the Monarchs 28-10.
