Men's Ice Hockey Finishes 2021-22 Season with Loss on Senior Day

PITTSTON, PA (February 19, 2022) -- The King's College men's ice hockey team wrapped up their 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon as they fell, 5-2, to Chatham University at the Revolution Ice Centre.

The Monarchs honored their seven graduating members of Brandon Daigle, Michael DiSchiavi, Jack O'Neil, Jerry Scatena, JP Natishan, Eric Menninger, and Connor Lavin prior to the contest.

The matchup was thrilling throughout the first two periods before the Cougars opened the scoring to break the tie with three goals in the third as they secured the 5-2 win in the regular-season finale.

Chatham (9-12-2, 6-8-2 UCHC) got on the board first late in the opening period at the 17:03 mark on a goal from Tristan Simm off assists by Jackson Koblick and Michael Lamison.

King's (5-19-0, 3-13-0 UCHC) tied up the contest in the first 2:12 of the second off Jack Cooper's 13th goal of the season thanks to feeds from Casey Gerstein and Tyler Blanchard. The Monarchs then took the lead, 2-1, just 5:20 later as Blanchard found the net for his eighth goal of the season off a pair of senior assists from O'Neill and Lavin. But, Chatham would tie the game, 2-2, at the 18:46 point in the second period off an Evan Mitchell goal thanks to assists from Matthew Doyle and Joshuwa Kalinowski.

It was in the third period that Chatham's offense exploded as Kenneth Gill broke the tie just 4:08 into the final period off Aidan Girduckis's and Simm's assists. The Cougars would find the net two more times, first just 33 seconds later then again at the 6:38 mark on a power-play opportunity to push the Monarchs deficit and hand King's the 5-2 loss at the Revolution Ice Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Blanchard led King's with two points on a goal and an assists off three shots, adding six face off wins in the loss. Aaron Frenkel led the offensive attack for the Monarchs with five shots, while DiSchiavi totaled four shots and 14 face off wins. Defensively, Rhett Padgett and Erik Borschevsky each recorded three blocked shots in the loss. Daigle was excellent in goal throughout his final contest in the red and gold, saving 39 total shots including 19 in the second period.

Five different Cougars totaled two points in the win, while Matt Mood recorded a game-high eight shots. Michael Lamison led the face off efforts with 10 wins, while Aidan Girduckis led Chatham with three blocks. Ricardo Gonzalez posted 22 saves in the win, including all 11 shots faced in the final period.

King's was slighted in face offs, 36-35, in a tightly contested matchup. The Monarchs also recorded 26 shots as a team and blocked 19 Cougars shots in the loss.
