Monarchs Drop Hard-Fought Battle in Season Finale

READING, PA (February 19,  2022)  -- The King's women's ice hockey team hung tough through the first two periods before the host Alvernia University exploded for three goals in the final period to post the 5-0 final in Reaidng, Pa. on Saturday night.

King's (2-22-0, 2-18-0 UCHC) limited Alvernia (11-12-1, 9-9-1 UCHC)  to just one goal in the opening 20 minutes  of play before Amber Steinhilpert found the net with 31 seconds left in the first period. The Monarchs defense was stellar again in the second, giving up just one more goal at the 16:15 mark of the second to Alvernia's Abby Reisinger.

The Golden Wolves found their rhythm in the final period as they went on to record three tallies in the first five minutes, including one more score from Reisinger and two from Sydney Bradley.

Senior Erin King recorded five shots to lead the offensive efforts, while senior Josée Aitken totaled eight face off wins and two blocks. Junior Ali Noeding also posted two blocked shots for the defense, while the goalie duo of Syd Dahl and Hannah Bowers made 18 and 15 saves, respectively.

Julia Beaven totaled 16 saves between the pipes, while Reisinger and Olivia Gilida each posted three points in the win for the Golden Wolves.

As a team, the Monarchs tallied 16 shots, 17 face off wins, and eight blocked shots in the loss.
