WILLIAMSPORT, PA (February 25, 2022) --- The King's College wrestling team competed in the first day of action at the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday in Williamsport, PA.

A total of ten Monarchs entered competition this weekend against a field featuring 20 colleges and universities from the region. As a team, King's currently sits in 15th with 24.5 points.

Senior Kade Kravits earned a spot in the semifinals tomorrow with an outstanding performance in the first day of action. Kravits began the day with a second period pin on Tyson Hoopes of Southern Virginia University at the 4:17 mark. He then advanced to the quarterfinal where he faced off against Dylan Weaver of Shenandoah University and earned a 2-0 decision win to claim his spot in the semifinals.

Gus Petruske IV had a strong day in his first career appearance at regionals. The junior also earned a pin in his opening bout at 133, despite being down in the match at the time of his pin. After dropping his quarterfinal bout to Luke Hoerle, a highly ranked wrestler out of Stevens Institute of Technology, Petruske responded well with an 8-2 decision win over Dalton Daugherty of Messiah University. Petruske will continue on in competition tomorrow as he looks to improve upon his spot on the podium.

Billy Grace (184) and Jason Sine (197) each made it to the fourth round in the consolation bracket but were eliminated after dropping decisions in their respective weight classes. In the lower weight classes, Noah Clawson (141) and Robert Zelinski (149) each earned a decision win for King's before falling in the third round of the consolations.

Action will resume tomorrow morning at 9 am as Kravits and Petruske will compete for the Monarchs.
