WILLIAMSPORT, PA (February 26, 2022) —
Kade Kravits of King's College Wrestling qualified for the 2022 NCAA National Championships with a third place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Saturday.
Kravits and fellow Monarch
Gus Petruske IV competed for placements in the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships at Lycoming College.
Petruske, a 133 pounder, took to the mats first and fought hard in a closely contested bout with a familiar opponent in Jack Bauer of Wilkes. Petruske earned a sudden victory with a match sealing two-point takedown.
Kravits opened up his day in the 174 semifinals against highly ranked Yousseff Ait Boulahri of Delaware Valley. The senior leader of the Monarch wrestling squad wrestled hard all match but was topped by the Aggie in a 4-1 decision.
In the consolation semifinals, Petruske gave everything he had to eventual third place finisher Luke Kowlaski of Gettysburg College. Petruske fought back from an early deficit and proved his resiliency in a 16-10 decision loss.
Kravits took on George Moseley of Averett in the consolation semifinals where he earned a 3-1 decision win for KC. The senior earned an escape point and followed up with a two-point takedown to secure a 3-1 decision win.
In the 133 fifth place match, Petruske's opponent was unable to compete due to an injury forcing a medical forfeit in the Monarch's favor.
Kravits faced off against Cameron Blizard of Washington and Lee in the 174 third place match. Kravits took control early and never let up throughout the bout. He defeated Blizard in a 4-1 decision to clinch his spot in the NCAA National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 11-12.
Kravits marks the first Monarch wrestler to qualify for the National Championships since 2014 and the first under head coach Josh Roosa. King's finished 14th overall out of the 20 competing colleges and universities.
