WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 23, 2022) -- In their fourth game in three days, the King's College baseball team struggled in the top of the eighth on their way to a 13-4 loss to Marywood University in non-conference play at Lip Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Monarchs fall to 6-6 for the season, while the Pacers improve to 10-3.
The game remained tied after the opening inning as each team plated two runs in the first. Marywood (10-3) put their two runs on the board on two hits before King's (6-6) got their chance to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back walks from senior

Zach Day drove in the tying run in the next at bat to cap off a thrilling opening stanza.
A quick second inning set up the Monarchs to see another pair of runs cross in the bottom of the third. Yochem reached safely on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a passed ball to get in position for a two-out RBI single to center from Day. Day then came around to score on a Pacers error to put King's ahead, 4-2.
First year
Matt Martin had a solid showing on the mound in the next two innings as the game saw just one more hit entering the sixth inning with no runs and three strikeouts.
Marywood took advantage of some walks in the top of the sixth as they scored twice to tie the game, then tacked on two more in the seventh on two hits to take the 6-4 advantage. An explosive eighth inning saw seven Pacers runs on seven hits to take a daunting 13-4 lead.
The Monarchs loaded the bases on walks in the bottom of the eighth with two outs but could not capitalize as the game was called due to darkness, as King's fell 13-4 to Marywood in the non-conference contest.
Yochem and Day each recorded hits in the loss, while Day and Loner added an RBI each in the loss.
Ben Gravel led Marywood as he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Michael Tempel and Jake Schuster tallied three runs each. AJ Jordan recorded the win in relief, allowing no hits and no runs in 2.0 innings of work.
King's will take a day off to prepare to host the first game in their MAC Freedom series with FDU-Florham on Friday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m. at Lipo Field.
