WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 25, 2022) -- With the conclusion of his collegiate playing career behind him, King's College football graduate
Gabe Boccella has signed a professional playing contract to compete in American Football in Germany for the Ingolstadt Dukes organization.
"I'm incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to take my talents to Germany to play the game I love and be able to travel to Europe," said Boccella. "I can't wait to get over there and make new connections and memories that will last a lifetime. Go Dukes, All In!"
The Dukes compete in the German Football League II (GFL2) and are set to open their 2022 season on the road on April 4 before hosting their first home contest on May 7. The GFL2 season runs from April to October with their last regular-season game scheduled for August 27.
Boccella had a stellar career in the red and gold, serving as a member of the Single Digit Tough squad during his tenure. He earned two nods on the All-MAC Second Team as a wide receiver in 2019 and 2021 as well as two Academic All-MAC awards in those same seasons. The Aston, Pa. native led the Monarchs receivers with 383 yards on 40 catches with two touchdowns for an average of 38.3 yards per game. He was also the Monarchs primary return man for the season, averaging 15.79 yards on 14 punt returns for a total of 221 yards. He added 349 kickoff return yards on 16 attempts for an average of 21.81 yards per return as he consistently set-up the Monarchs offense for their next drive. Boccella ranked eighth in the MAC in all-purpose yards, averaging 100.8 all-purpose yards per game.
Off the field, Boccella was a model student-athlete and member of the King's community as a marketing major and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative.
"We are thrilled as a program for the opportunity Gabe has to play in Germany," said King's football Head Coach Jeff Knarr. "Gabe has worked tirelessly to achieve his goal of having the opportunity to play after college. We are excited to follow Gabe's season and wish him nothing but the best."
