WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 30, 2022) -- In their first home match at Kirby Park in their spring 2022 season, the King's College men's tennis team swept the visiting Marywood University, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Monarchs improve to 3-5 as a team while the Pacers fall to 1-5.
At No. 1 singles, junior
Logan Gregory handed Eddie McGreevy matching 6-1 losses in straight sets. Then in No. 2 singles action, first year
Tommy Hallahan defeated James Cawley by sets of 6-1. No. 3 singles play say first year
Patrick Pech battle with David Cehmidlin as Pech won the opening set, 6-2, before dropping a tough 6-4 loss in the second set. Pech was able to rally in the final set to win 10-5.
No. 4 singles action featured a win for sophomore
Aidan Temple as he blanked Hunter Talipski, 6-0 and 6-0. First year
Cody Zheng earned a gritty win at No. 5 singles after dropping the first set, 7-5, to Max Burke. Zheng then rallied to win the last two, 6-3 and 10-1, to earn the win. First year
Jacob Nelson rounded out the wins in singles play with a forfeit at No. 6 singles.
In double play, Gregory and Hallahan defeated the Pacers pair by a score of 8-2. Then, Pech and Temple teamed up to hand Marywood's No. 2 doubles team a 5-2 loss before injury retired play. Zheng and Nelson rounded out the sweep with an 8-3 win over the Pacers at No. 3 doubles.
King's will be back on the courts, weather permitting, tomorrow afternoon against Eastern University at Kirby Park at 3:00 p.m.
