Monarchs Drop Hard Fought Home Contest

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 5, 2022) – The Monarchs fought hard but could not stop the firepower of the visiting Knights of Neumann University. The Knights used a number of scoring runs to out pace the Monarchs, eventually winning 16-3.
 
Neumann struck first, at the 13:28 mark of the first quarter behind Vincent Corbino's first goal of the season. The Knights would tack on another at the 12:46 mark before first year Ben Spencer would get the Monarchs on the board at 6:52 to make it 2-1 in favor of the Knights. Neumann would score twice more before the end of the quarter, with Max Nice finding the back of the net at the 3:55 mark and Drew Conlon netting his second of the game with 2 seconds left in the period to make it 4-1 at the end of the first.
 
Neumann would get things started in the second, going on a 3 goal run starting at the 7:56 mark and ending at the 4:42 mark behind goals by Emmett Wexler, Vincent Corbino, and Drew Conlon. The Monarchs would get 1 before the end of the first half as first year Luke Babilon put one past the goalie with 1:55 left in the half. Drew Conlon would net his third of the game with just 28 seconds left in the half to put the Knights up 8-2.
 
Neumann went on to put 5 between the pipes in the third quarter, starting just 5 seconds into the period. Drew Conlon would double his hat trick and Emmett Wexler and John McGrath would each get 1. The Monarchs would eventually earn 1 back as graduate student Gabe Vansuch got his first goal of the year with 1:59 left in the third quarter.
 
The Knights shut down the Monarch offense in the fourth, giving up no goals while scoring 3 of their own. Emmett Wexler and Vincent Corbino would each round out their hat tricks on the day and Mike Kiley would get his first and only of the game.
 
The Monarchs had 3 different goal scorers, Ben Spencer, Luke Babilon, and Gabe Vansuch. Vansuch would lead King's with 2 total points on 1 goal and 1 assist. Alec Martin and Jack Wall would each tally an assist. Sophomore Jon Wiedow led the defense with 5 caused turnovers and 2 groundballs, and sophomore Alex Tristan caused 4 turnovers while snagging a team high 5 groundballs. Junior Joe Plachcinski got the start in net and made 15 saves along the way. 
 
The Knights were led by Drew Conlon's 9 points on 7 goals and 2 assists as he racked up 10 shots. Emmett Wexler and Vincent Corbino each recorded a hat trick. Brett McLaughlin led the Neumann defense with 4 caused turnovers and he picked up 9 groundballs along the way.
 
The Monarchs will be back in action next Wednesday March 19 as they hit the road to Rosemont College for a 4:00 PM start.
