Men's Tennis Opens Spring Slate with Win over Monmouth

ORLANDO, FL (March 6, 2022) -- In their opening match of their spring training trip in Florida, the King's College men's tennis team posted a solid 6-3 win over Monmouth College on Sunday night.

First year Patrick Pech made a strong debut for his collegiate career as he earned a win at No. 3 singles, 6-4 and 6-4, over Monmouth's Sawyer Day, while sophomore Aidan Temple toughed out a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 victory over the Fighting Scots' Andre Myuklebust at No. 4 singles.

Then in No. 5 singles, first year Cody Zheng battled with Monmouth's Matthew Simonson before earning a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) victory, and first year Jacob Nelson rounded out the singles' wins at No. 6 with a 7-6, 6-4 decision over Nicholas Robertson.

The No. 2 doubles pair of Pech and Temple earned a hard-fought 8-6 win over the Fighting Scots pair, while Nelson and Zheng also added their second wins of the day with a solid 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

In No. 1 singles action, junior Logan Gregory fell 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) to Andrew Shie of Monmouth, while first year Tommy Hallahan dropped mirroring 7-5 results to Brendan Guenther. The duo teamed up and lost their No. 1 doubles matchup, 8-4, to the Fighting Scots.

King's looks to continue their strong play tomorrow evening as they take on University of Northwestern (MN) at 6:30 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
