Men's Tennis Splits on Saturday at Home

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 2, 2022) -- The King's College men's tennis team split their Saturday matches, falling 9-0 to Stevens Institute of Technology in MAC Freedom play and defeating Penn College 6-3. The Monarchs improve to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the MAC Freedom with the split in the matches at Kirby Park on Saturday afternoon.

vs. Stevens - L, 0-9:
At No. 1 singles, junior Logan Gregory fell to Matt Luzzi, 6-3 and 6-1. Then in No. 2 singles play, first year Tommy Hallahan dropped 6-0 and 6-1 decisions to Phillip Dzkudlarski. The No. 3 singles pairing say first year Patrick Pech lose by set scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

Sophomore Aidan Temple dropped matching scores of 6-0 to Eloi Pradier at No. 4 singles. No. 5 singles saw senior Nick Harth fall 6-2 and 6-0 to Mark Pabalan. In No. 6 singles action, first year Cody Zheng lost by scores of 6-2 and 6-4 to Brian Li.

Doubles play featured the pairing of Gregory and Hallahan at No. 1 doubles as they fell to the Ducks pair, 8-2. No. 2 doubles saw Pech and Temple team up to fall 8-0, while Zheng and first year Jacob Nelson lost 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

vs. Penn College - W, 6-3:
Gregory battled out a 6-4 and 7-6 (6-0) decision at No. 1 singles over Tucker Phillippe-Joh. Hallahan fell, 7-5 and 6-1, to Paul Langnein at No. 2 singles. Then in No. 3 singles action, Pech defeated Alexander Norris after falling 6-4 in set one as he battled to win sets of 6-1 and 6-2 down the stretch.

No. 4 singles play featured a win by Temple, 6-2 and 6-4, over Jesse Kight. Zheng earned a win at No. 5 singles, 6-0 and 6-1, over Tommy Cavanagh. Nelson finished out singles play with a forfeit win at No. 6 singles.

In doubles play, Gregory and Hallahan were defeated by the Wildcats pair, 8-4. Harth and Zheng dropped an 8-7 (8-6) loss to the Wildcats at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles pair of Nelson and first year Alex Nole earned a win due to forfeit.

The Monarchs are back in action in a single match on Monday, April 4 as they host the University of Scranton at 3:30 p.m. at Kirby Park.
