King's Drops MAC Freedom Doubleheader at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, PA (April 23, 2022) -- The Monarchs dropped two tough contests on the road as they fell 10-0 in game one and 7-1 in game two at DeSales University in MAC Freedom play on Saturday afternoon. With the losses, the Monarchs fall to 10-19 overall and 3-15 in MAC Freedom play, while the Bulldogs improve to 18-14 and 11-7 in the conference.

Game 1 - L, 0-10:
DeSales (18-14, 11-7 MAC Freedom) plated six runs in the first inning as they cruised to a 10-0 win in the second game of the MAC Freedom series.

The six runs came off three hits as the Bulldogs were firing on all cylinders to start the day. The hosts then plated two more runs on two hits in the second and another two runs on four hits in the third to take their 10-0 lead that would hold down the stretch in the MAC Freedom contest.

Five different Monarchs recorded hits in the loss on Saturday afternoon. Jeremy Huffman recorded the loss as the starter in 1.1 innings of work, allowing seven earned runs on three hits while striking out two.

The Bulldogs saw four hitters total two hits in the win, as Hunter Spalt and Robert Lamm drove in three runs each. Ian Kacergis recorded the win in the complete game, holding King's scoreless and giving up five hits.

Game 2 - L, 1-7:
The night cap saw a defensive battle take place as King's (10-19, 3-15 MAC Freedom) plated a run in the first before both offenses went scoreless until the fourth inning.

Senior Matt Bound got on with a one-out walk and stole second. Junior Brandon Loner drove him in with a single through the right side to take the early 1-0 lead.

Senior Shane Beyer then went to work as he struck out seven batters in his 5.2 innings of work to maintain the 1-0 lead.

The DeSales bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth as they took a 5-1 lead on three hits. The Bulldogs then tacked on two more runs in the fifth to hold a 7-1 advantage that would stand over the final two innings.

Sophomore Chase Yochem was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Monarchs. Beyer earned the loss as the starter as he allowed five earned runs while striking out seven.

Trevor Leamer and Dillon Drew each recorded three hits in the comeback win, as Drew also drove in a team-best three runs. Jared Drake earned the win in 5.0 innings as he allowed one earned run on six hits.

The Monarchs are scheduled to finish the regular season next weekend, hosting cross-town rival Wilkes on senior day on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Lipo Field before making the trip across town on Saturday.
