Men's Lacrosse Topped by DeSales on Senior Day

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 23, 2022) – The high pace offense of the Bulldogs of DeSales outmatched the Monarchs as the men's lacrosse fell 24-4 on senior day.
 
Things for the Devil started fast as they scored within the first minute of play. DeSales managed to net another 3 goals before the 10 minute mark of the first quarter, giving the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead. The Bulldogs continued their run, putting another 6 in the back of the net before the Monarchs could put an end to it. Graduate student Gabe Vansuch finally snuck 1 past the goalie, off the assist from senior Alec Martin, at the 1 minute mark of the first quarter. The Monarchs found themselves down 10-1 at the first break. 
 
Both teams struggled early in the second quarter. The Bulldogs broke open the scoring at the 8:55 mark to begin another run. DeSales went on a 6 goal run while blanking the Monarchs in the second quarter to take a 16-1 lead into halftime.
 
Gabe Vansuch opened the scoring for both teams in the second half. Vansuch notched his second of the game off another Martin assist. The Bulldogs answered back swiftly, giving them back the 15 goal lead. Just under 2 minutes later, senior Brendan Gambino took advantage of an extra man opportunity and notched his first of the game, with the assist coming from Vansuch. DeSales ended the third quarter with 3 unanswered goals to take a 20-3 lead into the final break.
 
The Bulldogs scored first in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 18 as the scoreboard read 21-3. First year Ben Spencer answered back for the Monarchs, off the feed from senior Paul Trabucco. The game would end with another 3 goal run for the Bulldogs, making the final score 24-4 in favor of DeSales.
 
Gabe Vansuch led the Monarchs on offense, ending the game with 2 goals and an assist for a total of 3 points. Alec Martin earned 2 points on 2 assists while Brendan Gambino, Ben Spencer, and Paul Trabucco each finished with 1 point apiece. First year Ryan Dolphin anchored the defense with a career best 5 caused turnovers while picking up 2 groundballs. Seniors John Shaffer and Aaron Olsovsky each caused 2 turnovers. Junior Matt Wall played almost a complete game between the pipes, making 12 saves and picking up 6 groundballs. Junior Jackson Campbell finished out the game and picked up 1 save. 
 
The Bulldogs had 2 with 6 points apiece as Jake Fratarcangeli notched 3 goals and dished out 3 assists and Chase Bowman earned 2 goals and 4 assists. TJ Herron tallied 4 goals and an assist for himself. Christian Chiulli and Patrick Kerrigan each caused 3 turnovers. DeSales had 3 goalies get time, tallying 12 combined saves with Quentin Lyons getting the start. Lyons made 7 saves and picked up the win.
 
The Monarchs return to action next Wednesday, April 27 as they travel across the square to take on cross-town rival Wilkes University at 7:00 PM.
